In Feb 2020 I won a competition to create an original artwork interpretation of the wonderful mock-Tudor Liberty London building, to celebrate it’s restoration.
My painting 'The Fabric of Liberty' was chosen and included in the Liberty London Book. It shows the transformation of 2 war ships into the building, with it sailing on a sea of that iconic William Morris inspired fabric.
.... I knew thousands of people would enter so I needed to think of something really different. I know the building and of course the beautiful fabrics. A bit of research involved a virtual Youtube tour of the store (which was hugely relaxing -you should try it!!), Google Street View and a bit of Googling about the building itself.....

Did you know that it was built from the wood of 2 old warships? The HMS Hindostan and the HMS Impregnable. And the store is the same length as one of the ships.

I went to bed, slept on the idea and woke with the concept that I then went about planning, drawing and then painting. I submitted the image and received an Email 2 weeks later saying it had been selected - a very happy moment!
'The Fabric of Liberty' prints are now available in Overton Gallery or in my shop
